Back To The Future: Part 2 "What Is Our Future As Christians?" (6/25/17)
Review from 6/18 - A "prophecy" is a message inspired by God, a divine revelation.
How was the Bible written? Its true there were 35-40 human writers God used over 1500 years. But these "prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (1 Peter 1:21). Prophecy can be either "foretelling" (tells of future) or "forthtelling" (conveys God's message not related to future).
- Primary purpose of NT foretelling prophecy, esp conc return of Jesus? Our purity!
I. Jesus will return to earth for us (John 14:1-3).
Jesus would soon end His earthly ministry (die on cross, resurrected, ascend 2 heaven), so He gave these comforting words to His disciples. Too bad so much arguing among Christians conc details of Jesus' return for us. ie. "Rapture" 1 Thess 4. Trib Period, 2nd C
Overly focused on details ("Trees") we lose sight of the main pt, the forest!
Jesus is coming back! When? No one knows for sure, Cp. Matt 24:36, 42-46. Be ready!
But our future may change as individuals if we die physically before Jesus returns.
II. When we die, their spirits go immediately to be with Jesus (2 Cor. 5:6-8).
At Rapture, Jesus will bring spirits of believers with Him and rejoin these spirits with physical remains on earth to create new resurrection bodies which have spiritual and physical aspects.
1 Thess. 4:13-18 and 1 Cor. 15:50-58.
1 Thess. 4:18 - purpose of these words is for comfort, assurance, encouragement.
