As I observed my son studying for Finals this month, I think back to my own college days. A full-time student carrying 12-15 units each semester, and working for State government is not something I recommend to my college age son or anyone else attending college, it's not an easy life. The most vivid memories I have of my college days are studying on weekends and after dinner, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning because of an exam the next morning and getting up a few hours later to get ready for that 8:00 a.m. class.

Sometimes when you're young, you think you can do it all. I'll have to say, such a rigorous schedule is not for everyone. But I also know it's not out of the ordinary either. I know many college students who are able to juggle school, work, and even maintain a social life simultaneouly and with ease. And while my college days could have been more carefree and unencumbered, I felt God brought the added responsibilities into my life to build responsibility, determination and perseverance.

Pursuing education, doing God's work (since high school) and later pursuing a career seemed like my life course, but was that what God wanted for me? I believe so. But is it for everyone? The answer is that we need to be open to God's calling and enter doors that He opens in our lives (and depart from doors that He closes). Higher education may or may not be in your destiny. But what is ideal and everlasting is seeking the knowledge of God, knowing His will, doing His work, and being open to God's leading. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness. And all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33) So for those of you college students who may feel like a prisoner to your studies now, it's not the end, but the beginning of so many rewards and opportunities to come, whether it be in a full time career, full time ministry, or a balance of both.

The best to you as you culminate your college year. And I pray that all the hours of studying pays off when Final grades come out!

You are so right, Landa. Thank you for reminding us all to seek His kingdom first, no matter what stage of life we are at.

If you are moving away and would still like to maintain your ties to CCC, please feel free to start a blog or a prayer page. If you are moving away for college, you can keep your CCC family informed of your activities and needs. Each time you create a new entry, your CCC family will be notified and we can pray for you more specifically.
