My niece Gail Nakano has been singing in choirs throughout high school and now in college. It didn't dawn on me until recently ago that I should have her sing at CCC (bad uncle!). So, a few Sundays ago (August 9), I had her sing with the worship team. She also sang a solo rendition of "All the Earth" which sounded , well, heavenly. Thanks, Tom for accompanying her.
That evening, Gail also sang "Danny Boy" for my mother's 80th birthday party at Frank Louie's restaurant. It's one of my mom's favorite songs. God has blessed my mother with wonderful life and her granddaughter with an exquisite voice.
"Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so."
The song has an interesting history with multiple interpretations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Boy
Before Gail went back to college last week, I had her come over and record Danny Boy for your listening pleasure. I created a folksy-jazz arrangement for her and for me on guitar. Hope you enjoy it.
Listen to it here.
