FACTS AND AMENDS
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2009

Hello once again friends! Here goes blog number 2. For this one, I think I’ll try something a little different. My idea is that I’ll provide verbal snapshots of my last two weeks, so that you can get a panoramic view. (And I must note, I sort of/kind of got this idea from a post that Ms. Taylor Wong sent me. Thanks!)

1)Naomi’s Birthday
*Fact I_Miss_You: A good girlfriend is a treasure.
*Amendment to I_Miss_You: It’s lame how I haven’t seen her for a month. As Pastor John Shim says, “You won’t remember what grade you got in your chem class. But you will remember who you choose for a [spouse].” Tell that to my professor.
* Conclusion to I_Miss_You: Thank goodness for technology. I hope to see you soon! Iredeshi :)

2)Regents’ and Chancellor’s
*Fact Waste_Of_My_Life: Student teacher receptions are really boring.
*Amendment to Waste_Of_My_Life: It doesn’t mean you’re smart. It just means they bribed you to come to Cal. And while this didn’t happen to me, but my good friend, they revoke your scholarship. For no apparent reason (we haven’t even gotten grades yet!)
*Conclusion to Waste_Of_My_Life: Regents’ and Chancellor’s is over rated.

3) The Football Game(s)
*Fact Go_Bears: Cal football games are awesome.
*Amendment 1 to Go_Bears: Cal football games are only awesome when we win.

4)Midterms
* Fact Stressing_Me_Out: Midterms are really, really, really stressful
*Amendment 1 to Stressing_Me_Out: Chemistry and Math are all of a sudden not my best subjects. High school, where did I go wrong?
*Amendment 2 to Stressing_Me_Out: Everyone’s in the same boat as you are. And God is way more important than my test.
*Conclusion: Midterms are fleeting. God stays forever. And I love that He wrote Philippians 4 and Matthew 6. Thank God.

5)Family Visits
*Fact Missing_Home: Family is good.
*Amendment 1 to Missing_Home: Family is real good, especially when they come to visit you, and you can catch up, enjoy each other’s company, let you know that they care, that they’re praying for you, that life at home is moving on, that you’re siblings are doing well, that your church is growing and changing and seeking to please God.
*Amendment 2 to Missing_Home: When extended family takes you out to dinner and give you food (like SUSHI!), it makes you really, really, happy. (Thanks Uncle Dave, Auntie Susie, Uncle Todd, Auntie Anna, Uncle Matt, and GooGoo!)

6)I’ve Got an Awesome Roommate
*Fact Who_Needs_the_College_Experience? : Jeff is pretty dang cool.
*Amendment 1 to Who_Needs_the_College_Experience?: I’m super glad that I chose to room with my cousin.
*Amendment 2 to Who_Needs_the_College_Experience?: We steal each others food, and it’s okay.
*Addition to Who_Needs_the_College_Experience?: His day consists of waking up after 10 hours of sleep, going to class, doing homework for about an hour or two, playing free HP games on his laptop (aka Sally’s Diner, Wedding Planner, Sally’s Salon, Pengiun Lemmings, etc.), working out until his muscles (muss culls) explode, and then going to sleep.
*Conclusion to Who_Needs_the_College_Experience?: I love my roommate, and it was lonely when he left for the weekend. Come home safe cousin.

7)Thomas and Uram Make Berkeley Home
*Fact With_Friends_Like_These_Who_Needs_Anemones?: Uram and Thomas hitting each other on the head in Korean Jan Ken Po is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. (Ask me to show you the link. It’s not on youtube)
*Amendment 1 to With_Friends_Like_These_Who_Needs_Anemones?: Hanging out with Uram and Thomas for a bajillion hours this past weekend was super fun.
*Addition to With_Friends_Like_These_Who_Needs_Anemones?: Meeting your floormates (CJ, Kathy, Kelly, Christina, Kevin,...and some other people’s names who I don’t remember) was fun.
*Amendment 2 to With_Friends_Like_These_Who_Needs_Anemones?: Ping pong in the dining commons is So. Much. Fun. Repeat. ASAP. But not as fun as volleyball ping pong. We owned them CJ. After your knees heals, we’ll take ‘em down.
*Amendment 3 to With_Friends_Like_These_Who_Needs_Anemones?: Australian tennis is actually pretty fun. Thanks to Coach Uram for fixing my serve!
*Conclusion to With_Friends_Like_These_Who_Needs_Anemones?: Friends for life? Please?

8) I Do Not Look like Michael Murata!
*Fact Why_Do_People_Think_We’re_Twins/Related/Brothers/Best_Friends?: I do not look like Michael Murata.
*Amendment 1 to Why_Do_People_Think_We’re_Twins/Related/Brothers/Best_Friends?: It’s because of the hair. I need a hair cut.
*Addition 1 to Why_Do_People_Think_We’re_Twins/Related/Brothers/Best_Friends?: We just happened to match, with a striped polo (mine was blue! His was black!), jeans, and converses. Fail.
*Amendment 2 to Why_Do_People_Think_We’re_Twins/Related/Brothers/Best_Friends?: Church was a little awkward in that way. “Are you two related?” Nope. “Are you guys long time friends?” Nope, we met a month ago. *Awkward silence*
*Conclusion to Why_Do_People_Think_We’re_Twins/Related/Brothers/Best_Friends?: I can never be in Michael’s presence ever again. Darn, there goes my tutor. In ever subject of life. Except Jesus. That’s my job for him. :)

9) The Night Walk
*Fact Shady_Walk: going to bed at 3:15 am is a recipe for the next day being one of hurt.
*Amendment 1 to Shady_Walk: going to bed at 3:15 am and waking up at 4:00 am (aka 45 minutes later) makes it even more likely that the next day is going to be a day of hurt.
*Amendment 2 to Shady_Walk: sleeping at 3:15 am and waking up at 4:00 am is so much worse when you have to walk down to the Bart station (20 minutes away) in the freezing cold, amidst the shady streets of Berkeley.
*Amendment 3 to Shady_Walk: After getting back from the perilous journey of coughing homeless, rustling leaves, mysterious figures, and leaping shadows, it’s worth it. Your cousin/roommate appreciated the company. And his girlfriend was probably happy that he made it to Washington in one piece.
*Equation for Shady_Walk: 3:15 am bed time + 4:00 am alarm + shady walk + scary city + awesome and dedicated cousin/roommate + cute couple + worthy cause = worth it.

10)The Big C
*Fact I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: At college, you’re always around other people.
*Amendment 1 to I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: The solution to too many distractions = get away by hiking 20 minutes up the hill.
*Addition 1 to I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: The view of the city is gorgeous. Even with the fog.
*Amendment 2 to I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: God spoke to me through His Word, and revealed to me through my suffering that I was worshiping an idol: how people view me, and how I view myself, primarily through my academic success, or lack thereof.
*Amendment 3 to I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: Maybe that’s why it was so devastating to earn two Cs on midterms, even though I studied. My motive was wrong. It was for my success, for my glory, for my fame, for my advancement, for my approval, for my status. Selfish, Keith, selfish.
*Addition 2 to I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: Dear Lord, crush my idols. Amen.
*Conclusion to I_Need_God_and_Keith_Time: I’ve been the most at peace since I got to Berkeley. Thank you Lord!

Okay so that might have been excessive. Anyways, hope you enjoyed the update. Email me if you need anything, or if you’ve got any specific questions for me (like Mrs. Landa did. Thanks for the email!) Time is pressed, as always, but keeping in touch with friends back home and right at Berkeley is so worth it. Until next time.
View of Berkeley from the Big ‘C’ at around 7:30 pm, as the fog comes rolling in. Captivating, no?

Hi Keith,
Thanks for your blog updates. Reminds all of us that life is more than just school, work, families, hobbies, etc. These are all good things, but all of them will pass away. God, His Word, and people last forever. Thanks for the encouragement your life and focus brings to all of us who desire to grow in our relationship with Jesus day by day. I hope I can come visit you in Berkeley sometime. We'll keep you in our prayers. Your friend and pastor, Pastor Louis.
